Boulevard İstanbul — Architect's note
When I first saw the building, I remember tilting my head slightly and asking, “Would you let me demolish just this middle part?” — and when I heard, “Sure, go ahead,” I was quietly thrilled. Back in Ankara, I started sketching, trying out alternatives, but nothing felt right for a long while. Then one day, I looked at the latest version and simply thought, “Yes, this is it.”
Complete design concept, mood boards, floor plans, and joinery drawings. Furniture and fixture sourcing. Renovation completed by Son & Son in collaboration with our trusted trades and partners.
Back in Ankara, I started sketching, trying out alternatives, but nothing felt right for a long while. Then one day, I looked at the latest version and simply thought, “Yes, this is it.” When the first visualizations were produced, I said, “Even if it were torn down and rebuilt, nothing better could come out of this site.” That exact feeling — rare and fulfilling — stayed with me. I haven’t felt it often since. I hope I do again. It was a good one.
Of course, the official procedures that followed… let’s not go into those — I was never a big fan of that part of the story.
After all the effort, my only wish is to see Boulevard not just on screen, but rising in concrete and steel. Falling in love with a result is not really what this job is about — it’s about loving the process itself.
